Growing Connections: Caregiver Appreciation Event

Event Description

About:  The day will start with refreshments and learning about local Dane County resources, followed by a keynote presentation from Dr. Alexis Eastman, titled “We're All in This Together: Building Support and Connection in Caregiving.”

 

Dr. Eastman is a geriatrician at UW, with clinics for primary care, and memory disorder diagnosis associated with the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute. She currently serves as the Director of Clinical Operations for the UW geriatrics clinics, and as the medical director for the Badger Prairie Health Care Center. After the keynote, you will break into smaller groups and have opportunities to tour the outdoor Gardens with a guide (weather dependent), or take some self-guided tours in the indoor Boltz Conservatory. The other breakout options will be sessions titled:

 

  • In Care Of: Telling the story of caregiving through postcards and public art’ by Kristin Voss

 

and

 

  • ‘Restoring YOU: A Self-Care workshop that empowers caregivers to build resilience, rediscover joy and strengthen their own wellbeing’ by Julia Hayde and Ellen Taylor

 

Respite will be available in the upstairs meeting room at Olbrich, and include professional caregivers, in addition to activity groups led by the Occupational Therapy Assistant students from Madison College. There is an elevator to get to the 2nd floor, and bathrooms close by.

 

What to know/bring: Half day session.
